why stairway to heaven is banned in guitar stores

This is a question that receives a lot of attention because it is such an unusual and seemingly arbitrary rule! We know that your first question would be why, why, WHY? To answer this you'll have to hear our side of the story. Stairway to Heaven, which was originally released in 1971, has been voted number one on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. It has also been banned from playing in any guitar stores for its questionable subject matter. We understand that the song is considered to be a classic, but even though it was written by some of the greatest rock and roll songwriters of all time, the subject matter has proved to be controversial over the years. So with this in mind we thought that you should know why it has been banned from guitar stores in certain countries. After recording most of Led Zeppelin's early albums, our lead singer Mr. Page took some extra time off to work on his first solo album. Because Led Zeppelin was known to be very private, Page's younger brother would often be seen going into their home studio. The rest of the band never knew what was going on there and this made them uncomfortable. Page wrote most of the music to Stairway while working at home, with his wife and two kids close by. The lyrics were more visceral than he normally wrote, inspired by real life events and very personal experiences. He wanted to create a song that would make people's hair stand on end and question reality.
