The author, who called herself Sophie, stated that summer styles changed on September 1st and there couldn't be any white in your wardrobe after that date. The rule was widely accepted and it was taken as truth by most clothing designers. As a result, white became the dominant color for summer wear in America. And when you think about it, why shouldn't it be? After all, white is the perfect symbol for summer and the end of your season of activity. But recently in the late 1990s, a few people started to question this rule. Many people suggested that wearing white after Labor Day did not interfere with the spirit of Labor Day.
